In the later parts of the run when it finally set in just how good a pace I was on, I was in legitimate disbelief, I had to have split early or accidentally hit fast forward at some point, I thought. UPDATE 2: This A press has now been saved using a similar method to this.
UPDATE: New testing has shown that 146.869 is an upper bound on minimum necessary speed. It is unknown if lower speeds can work, but any speed greater than or equal to 146.869 is known to work, as long as the angle is right (the closer you are to the minimum, the more exact angle needs to be)
The 150 speed has to be in the leftward direction so Mario's height doesn't change in the first frame of reactivation, that way he's wading in the shallow water part of the slope, and he can C^ up the slope instead of sliding down.
This idea of going up the pillar using hyper speed was initially conceived by Grassdigger. I simply did the majority of research and testing for it. SilentSlayers also contributed a little bit to testing/development. Finally, the idea of using an AB kick at the top of the pillar was initially conceived by pannen (https://youtu.be/xuVfNP3KT1E?t=1m46s) a while back

Pannen came up with an interesting challenge: What's the longest delay between collecting a star and touching the ground you can do? This is what I managed to do, a whopping 13.13 seconds!
First, I collect 7 of the red coins. This is copied from Snark's BoB Red Coins TAS (you didn't think I was THAT good at TASing, did you?). Then, I grab the cork box and use it to set the HOLP.
I then perform the hat in hand glitch, and grab the cork box I used to set the HOLP fake. I use the fake cork box to clone the red coin star, and position it about 330 units above the ground.
Then, I go through the teleporter to undo the hat in hand glitch, and clone a bob-omb. I position it such that it'll walk both under the star and off the ledge.
Finally, I BLJ to gain a lot of speed, and direct about 1300 speed to the tree (thanks pannen for the hyper speed route https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQaZ7PMdVVE). I then double jump to convert my speed to 337 VS, which is stored when I land on the ledge under the star and enter C^ cam (a technique known as C^ VSC).
Finally, the bob-omb pushes me off the ledge, and my 337 VS is activated, sending me up into the star with incredible speed. This means it takes a very long time to get back to the ground.

The platforms that I used the A press to clear are ~250 units apart, so you can't use a 207 DR to clear them.
Additionally, I don't think a DR or ZB could be used for the long-jump's purpose (getting close enough before the lava boost) because a long-jump barely made it in the first place.

Description
We collect the star Quick Race Through Downtown without touching the ground (standing on objects, like the box we stand on before wall kicking, is allowed). This is a TAS, BTW.

Here's a description of what we did:
First, we got to the cannon. This part is pretty self-explanatory, nothing technical happens here. In the cannon, I messed around a lot to get the angle to be a multiple of 16 (I'll explain why later).
Next, we rotated around in the water to face the positive X direction exactly. Since Mario (mostly) rotates in sets of 16 angle units in water, shooting from the cannon at a multiple of 16 made turning here a lot easier.
From there, we did a glitch called water raising. As you know, the water level in the town area goes up and down on a cycle. But what you likely didn't know is that when you leave the town and come back, the cycle resets, but the water level itself doesn't, thus making the water level when you left the town the new median when you return. So, by strategically leaving the town when the water level is at its highest, you can raise the water.
You might be wondering why we raised the water level for 10 whole hours, and why the water in the town was behaving weird when we went to get the star. Well, the water level's height is stored in a signed 16-bit integer, meaning that it can be any integer from -32768 to 32767. A quirk of integers' representations in computers is that if they try to exceed their maximum value, they'll wrap around to their lowest possible value, and vice versa. This is known as integer overflow and underflow.
So, we raise the water level to a specific height such that it overflows when trying to reach its max value, and underflows when trying to reach its min value. This causes the water level to alternate between positive and negative, making the town area alternate between completely dry and completely flooded.
Now, we didn't actually sit there and raise the water level for hours. Instead, I TASed one water raising, and copy-pasted the inputs for the rest.

This was Tanner Jacobi's original idea.
This route makes use of moving diagonally through PUs to use sqrt(2) times the syncing speed of the HSW spot rather than 2 times the syncing speed, thus drastically reducing the speed required.

Just to demonstrate that it would indeed save the A press.
Here, I land in the seam between two ceilings, like in the TTC Upwarp, then I recreate the bitflip of the upwarp by hacking my height from -2764 to -691, an exact quartering.

Total garbage. I'm very disappointed in this run. Still the best I can do tho.
You could bring this down to 3x by getting to the star using the hangable ceiling instead of a long-jump, you know, the intended strat, but for some reason I keep falling off the hangable ceiling.
From there, you can bring it down to 2.5x by DRing over the pit at the start instead of jumping. I'm just too bad at this game to make it with a DR.
I doubt any better than 2.5x is RTA-viable.

I'd like to mention that a lot of the times I enter lava are intentional. Doing so gives me a lot of height. This is known as "Lava Boosting"
Also, sometimes, I seem to heal when I shouldn't. I don't know for sure why that is, but my hypothesis is that it's the healing points still taking effect.
